Cleaning up my new design

I didn’t realize how bad my initial layout was until I spent some time cleaning it up, and then compared the original again. I tried to make my layout look suggestive of my previous site, but also tried to use features in iWeb (shadows, borders, gradients) to make it look sharper and more polished.

Another thing I added was support for Amazon’s beta popups. I link to Amazon products for, obviously, the opportunity to earn some affiliate commissions, but they don’t usually add up to much. The main reason I link to them is because their links don’t expire. I used to link to far more random and silly things, but the transient nature of the Internet kept killing all my links.

When I want to make some subtle joke with an absurd link, I know the Amazon product is more likely to stick around. With the new beta popups, it might be too much. I’ll have to see how annoying or obtrusive the option is. It’s javascript based, so anyone who flips out when then see anything commercial on the web has likely already turned off their javascript and will likely never see them anyway.

Let me know what you think of my new layout, and if it’s causing any display problems. Due to how iWeb names its graphic assets, you might find the page draws strangely until you reload it (try option clicking on the reload button if you use Safari).
