Speaking of Ironies: Adobe Flash, Al Gore and the iPad criticism on his Current TV
Daniel Eran Dilger
Earlier today, John Gruber of the Daring Fireball posted the line:
“Irony: Me, using my iPad to watch a video from the WSJ of Adobe’s CEO talking about how essential Flash is to publications like the WSJ.” ★
It reminded me of my own experience in being directed to Al Gore’s Current TV, by video blogger Ben Hoffman, who had created an “iPad sucks” video for broadcast on Current’s Tech Report. Current still uses Flash to present its videos (the entire site is tagged “beta”).

Why Steve Jobs Loves Adobe Flash
Daniel Eran Dilger
Steve Jobs doesn’t offer his thoughts all that often, but when he does, they are articulated in masterfully convincing language. His latest “Thoughts on Flash” sounded like a distillation of every RoughlyDrafted article on the issue of Flash, boiled down into a devastating six point skewering. Secretly though, Jobs really does love Flash, here’s why.

Microsoft’s Great Windows 7 Growth Lie
Daniel Eran Dilger
Windows Enthusiasts, the insulating layer of blubber on Microsoft’s monopoly whale, are excited to see Microsoft’s Q3 Windows unit licensing and profits growing faster year over year than Apple’s new Mac shipments. They think Windows 7 is winning. But they’re wrong, here’s why.

Gizmodo’s iPhone 4 story, as painted by PC World and IDG’s Apple haters
Daniel Eran Dilger
Windows Enthusiasts are busily chattering about Gizmodo’s iPhone 4 exposé, attempting to either create elaborate conspiracy theories that suggest Apple planned the whole thing, or alternatively, insisting that Apple screwed up and allowed a leak disaster that it could have prevented. Daniel Eran Dilger
If you didn’t know any better, you might think this whole Apple vs Adobe thing blew up out of nowhere because Steve Jobs woke up one morning with a stiff neck and decided to take it out on Adobe. Five Tremendous Apple vs. Adobe Flash Myths
Daniel Eran Dilger
Proponents of Adobe Flash insist that Apple’s iPhone 4.0 restrictions amount to “restraint of trade,” that the company’s Flash platform covers the vast majority of computers, that Adobe doesn’t need Apple and could bury it by cutting off its apps for the Mac in retaliation, that Apple really owes Adobe a hand, and that by not offering Flash, Apple is violating a universal doctrine demanding Choice. They’re wrong, here’s why.

iAd: Is Apple taking mobile ads in a new direction?
Daniel Eran Dilger
Steve Jobs apparently thinks “mobile ads suck,” so what is he doing about it? The story so far is that his Apple bought Quattro Wireless, turned it into iAd, and will be bundling it into its iPhone OS Software Development Kit so that App Store publishers can monetize their apps. But that’s nothing new, and doesn’t really change anything.
