Radio: Apple taxes, Windows 8 tablets, flawgic & iOS 7 at WWDC

Gene Steinberg of the Tech Night Owl invited me to talk about Tim Cooks’ appearance at the Senate, Microsoft’s Windows tablets, and of course Android. My segment follows Gene’s interview with Jim Dalrymple, Editor in Chief of The Loop.

This is mostly to let you know that, yes, some are listening to these podcasts.

On the puzzlement over why Google’s stock went up after all of their trivial announcements at Google I/O 2013: I think the market wasn’t “disappointed” by any of the announcements because none of them (that I heard, anyway) had anything to do with the company’s revenue generators. They rarely do.

Had the company been announcing one blockbuster search ad feature after another for the last 12 quarters, and this time nothing, that would have been quite a different story.

In a way, it’s probably a good idea for Apple to dampen the flames of ridiculous expectation for a while. As you said so well in your Apple Insider editorial: skip the lacquer and glitz for iOS 6, and incrementally improve the system’s utility / core value for a while.

The time will come soon enough to announce an iWatch that you talk to and has pizza sent to your door. Or whatever.
