Daniel Eran Dilger’s iPad Apple Event Photos
January 27th, 2010

Daniel Eran Dilger
Despite being aggressively manhandled by a Fox affiliate cameraman who stomped on my foot and shoved his tripod into my broken shoulder in an ineffectual attempt to register ahead of me (he was already registered by his colleague, and I was trying to tell him that — we weren’t even in the entry line), I managed to survive the piranha tank of rabid enthusiasm over Apple’s new iPad without additional injury.

“he was already registered by his college”? You mean colleague?
[Yesss, SL's silent spelling swapper strikes again - Dan]
So, you and Gruber speaking to each other yet?
Sounds like that divot from Fox will go far in the company, with that sort of behavior. Hey, maybe he’ll even get promoted to their cable news division!
How many working iPads were over the place?
In iPhone introduction there were like 3 working ones. (Those used by Steve, Johatan and Schimidt.)
Is that Ars Technica’s Jacqui Cheng in the same picture as Gruber (wearing black and blue sweater)? And the man with the hat standing under the banner looks like Andy Ihnatko. I would love to go to one of the Stevenotes just to spot blogosphere celebrities.

Just be glad that the Google-bike hit squad wasn’t there to finish you off!
What is the deal with that last pic of Gruber… is he pregnant?
I don’t think that’s Jacqui Cheng – she is really tall and big. I did say hi to the reporter from BBC Click and Dan Lyons.
There were about a dozen iPads on perhaps 4 tables, and then several more along the wall with accessories.
Rats, I was going to ask when Gruber was delivering that thing.
The intersection of technology and liberal arts was interesting as was the club chair and table. This was a weird event for them.
I think they should have called it a day on the “i” prefix but hopefully this is it. They’ve got a lot of iProducts at this point. You have to know when to call it a day on these things not beat them to death.
I was hanging out for an MBP upgrade announcement. But I’m now thinking that for my usage profile (desktop for real work, and a laptop for convenience in bed/couch/offsite), an iPad would be much better and a lot cheaper.
This is really turning into a complete ecosystem: iPhone + iPad + iMac, all held together by iTunes. And the price point – it’ll take the air out of the casual laptop market (people like me).
Not wanting to give it the kiss of death, but I’m really hopeful about this.
What next? Maybe get serious about TV?
I hope they get serious about AppleTV. I was all set to buy one but was going back and forth between getting a $125 blueray player or AppleTV. The experience they provide at my local Apple store for AppleTV stinks. A lot of what they demo on the loop (Jack Black in Nacho Libre) is grainy looking and I ended up getting the blueray player. 1080p vs. 720p, $125 vs. $225 plus the closest I could get to trying it out didn’t look great so I ended up with the BR player.
