OK, I listened to the segment to see what you were talking about. Had you explained that you were referring to a voiceover bumper all along, I might have checked further. That particular segment was recorded for us by David Biedny. I do not know what musical source he used, and I wouldn’t recognize a Rush song if you shoved it in my face, so I cannot confirm or deny what you say. They are way, way under my radar.

In connection with what? We don’t just play straight music except for two 9 second stingers from Radiohead and the “Outer Limits” TV show. Everything else is a bumper with a voiceover or the opening and closing themes.

OK, I got it!!!! Definitely a Rush song at 11.45 of the latest episode. Right after the SpellChecker ad. It’s the opening of “Entre Nous” from “Permanent Waves” and it’s right under your show id! God, I’m good. Now Gene has to sit in the corner wearing a funny hat or download “Institutionalized” by the Suicidal Tendencies.

Wilcox stumbled when I brought up the success of the App Store, as he began to backtrack on his claims that the iPhone was going to suffer the same fate as the Mac did way back when after being surrounded by Microsoft. That, and his admission that he just wanted to be provocative, was sufficient to make the case.

The goal is not to confront, but to present different points of view We confront on our other show, The Paracast (at http://www.theparacast.com).

As to the “You never knooooow,” that and most of our bumpers were made by Bob LeVitus, also known as “Dr. Mac.” David Biedny did two. Both used their own musical variations.

What’s the Radiohead song? I can’t wait to get home to relisten to what I think is Rush. I’m not admitting defeat yet. You do the editing yourself?

As to #2 I don’t see the value in that. And in general find we give provocateurs like that way to much media time especially if the interviewers aren’t up to refuting them with facts or more valid theories.

I’m actually a fan of the show and a regular listener. I like the goofy segment intro stuff (the booming voice that says “You never knoooow…”, “Their heerrreee”) it’s idiosyncratic and fun.

To answer your questions.

1. I use a segment from a “Who” song, and also the closing theme from the movie “Independence Day” along with segments from Radiohead and the TV show, “Outer Limits.” Sorry.

2. The purpose of the show is to give guests a chance to mouth off, even if I don’t agree with their conclusions. When Wilcox admits to just being provocative, it negates the more outrageous arguments he makes.

Gene, You use the same segment of Rush every week. I’m fairly positive it’s “Free Will” possibly “Entre Nous”. It’s pretty short, thankfully! As to Joe Wilcox I thought you let his Apple and the iPhone replaying the Mac\PC war argument go largely unchallenged.

Goofiness? I’ve been called a lot of things; so has the show. But goofy?

In any case, I don’t listen to Rush and don’t use their music on “The Tech Night Owl LIVE.”

With Joe Wilcox, he got away with nothing. I just let him hang himself, which he did when he admitted that he just writes that stuff to be provocative. ‘Nuff said.

Daniel works fine with just minor prompting on my part to keep him on point.
