Hesitantly, Arthur picked up one of those things that looked like pears.

“I always thought that about the Garden of Eden story,” said Ford.

“Eh?”

“Garden of Eden. Tree. Apple. That bit, remember?”

“Yes of course I do.”

“Your God person puts an apple tree in the middle of a garden and says do what you like guys, oh, but don’t eat the apple. Surprise, surprise, they eat it and he leaps out from behind a bush shouting`Gotcha’. It wouldn’t have made any difference if they hadn’t eaten it.”

“Why not?”

“Because if you’re dealing with somebody who has the sort of mentality which likes leaving hats on the pavement with bricks under them you know perfectly well they won’t give up. They’ll get you in the end.”

“What are you talking about?”

“Never mind, eat the fruit.”

In the book, “The Hitchhikers Guide to the Universe,” Ford Prefect said to something to the effect of, “Eathman, if your god is out to get you it doesn’t really matter what your do.” While this is usually taken to mean that god will get you even if you watch out, it is a very astute observation of human nature and the business of scandal. Build the up before you tear them down and don’t leave a dime of profit on the floor.

AT&T has tipped the scales of ironic behavior by dumping Tiger Woods, apparently because it doesn’t want to be represented by a figure who cheats his partner and screws anyone willing to sign up for service.

The impression I got was that you didn’t have to sign up – flash some T&A at him and – WHAM.

I feel sorry for his wife. She must have been mortified, especially when she learned the scale of his skirt chasing.
