MetalboySiSo,
pignorant (pig no runt) ADJECTIVE. To know less than a pig would know. (Urban Dict.)
.. is indeed funny (thanks gslusher!) but not quite the nuance it has in UK and Australian usage. Where it is, to my mind, a portmanteau word of 'pigheaded' and 'ignorant' and thus 'obstinately ignorant' or just plain obtuse. [Just for fun, open the Mac's built-in Dictionary (the American ed. of Oxford) and see the Right Word note at 'stupid'.]
Cheers

Hi Daniel. Apart from being an "angry pundit nutter" Mr. Strand is also a sociopath. I've had lots of dealings with him, and they always degenerate to ranting, raving, accusations, and so on. I don't understand how someone like that is able to run a legit business, although I do believe that his reputation following the iPhone debacle is waning. Here in Denmark we have to put up with him being quoted in the telecoms-related media a lot, which is painful (but this is also on the decline, fortunately).

Dear Daniel Eran Dilger,

I can see that you have written a blog based on a Google translation of a Danish article from 2007. We are happy when people show interest in our analysis, and when they at the same time can conduct a unbiased debate, on the other hand it saddens me when people write a blog which you have based on Google translation.

The fact is, the article is from August 2007, and is about the CHALLENGES Apple and other smaller manufacturers face when they will enter the mobile market. The Article is NOT a prediction for how Apple will end up in the mobile market, which you claim on your blog.

When I read your arguments and claim in relation to how we view the iPhone market, I must conclude that a error ridden Google translation made you write a blog combining fantasy and misguided information with the purpose of showing your allegations – Simply put you do NOT have any facts that prove your allegations and your arguments are flawed, put more on the spot you have a very relaxed attitude to facts and the truth.

I will not claim your blog is solely a product of an error ridden translation via Google Translator, or if you are a hardcore Apple fan, suffering from the iPhone syndrome, if you are a product of the American school system http://www.wulffmorgenthaler.com/strip.aspx?id=656c268e-ff70-43a3-9e52-b4923c42e1f2 or if you are bought and paid for to speak Apples case http://brainstormtech.blogs.fortune.cnn.com/2009/10/08/the-best-analysis-money-can-buy/#more-12625 other people can easily judge.

One thing is sure, there are NO evidence for your claims and the article you interpret as a prediction is a list of challenges Apple faces when they launched the iPhone back in January 2007.

If there are ANY factual errors in my post, please feel free to state them

Regards

John Strand

[Well the fact is that you were profoundly wrong about everything you suggested, and none of the bluster you replied with changes that. It isn't a translation problem, nor a problem on my end; its fallacious vision on your end because you have an emotional problem with Apple. - Dan]

@MetalboySiSo:

Check the Urban Dictionary:

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=pignorant

It's a great source--often hilarious. I'm almost-elderly (at least, that's what the kids I teach riding to say--I'm only 62!), so the Urban Dictionary helps me understand what the teens and slightly-beyond are saying.

Mad Hatter:
> It’s not hard to be viewed as obnoxious. Sometimes all you have to do is tell the truth.

Amen to that.

enzos:
You used a word I've never seen before, but was instantly attracted to: pignorant. I have to assume that such an astute and apropos word was intentional (and not a typo), but man, if that was a typo, congratulations on one of the more amusing mistakes I've seen. Thank you for that :)

>Such hyper-competitive behavior, irregardless [sic] of the price to others,

And which member of Mr Strand's family are you?

>is the reason our economy is in a shambles

I'm not American.

>and we are in wars we initiated in two countries, with a third and a fourth apparently already scheduled on the books.

ditto

>You and Dan both should both put away your rulers, zip up, and consider the possibility that there are more important things in life.

Such as defending pignorant numbskulls like Strand from the fruits of their crassitude while slagging the host for pointing them out? And, contrary t your later post, Dan is only obnoxious to those on the receiving end or those who are piqued by conclusions that are (in spite of the banter and the lampooning) founded on logical argument.

Seasonal Cheers to one and all!

"Like other critics of accepted scientific and intellectual thought, from climate change doubters to creationists to flat earth proponents,..."

Daniel,
while I greatly enjoy your detailed, earnest and well thought out defenses of all things Apple, I'm somewhat less thrilled about the politics. Whenever someone tells me that I am no longer allowed to think on my own, or have an opinion that differs from theirs, or compares my beliefs and convictions to those who once believed the earth to be flat I get more than a little ticked. Those that disallow criticism are very often wrong, and those that go even further to belittle those with whom they disagree are something much worse.

No doubt you believe the vast majority in your audience agree with your political and social views. While that may be true I would ask that you keep in mind the primary reason why we all come to read your otherwise fine work.

[It's not that you're "no longer allowed to think on your own," but rather a case of your being held accountable for the ideas you choose to believe and propagate and defend.

If you ignore the consensus of the entire global scientific community to back a minority ideology defensively invented by a coalition of big business (including oxymorons like "clean coal" ) and indoctrinated into feebleminded religious fundamentalists who uncritically exercise faith in whatever they are told to believe by their leaders, then yes, you deserve to be mocked as a willfully ignorant person. It has nothing to do with a "lack of freedom of belief."

The US Constitution seeks to prevent the government from interfering in free speech and promoting a specific religion. It does not have any capacity or intent to stifle criticism of your beliefs by others who are themselves exercising their freedom of speech.

Additionally, if you feel that subscribing to silly fictions written thousands of years before the advent of a modern scientific understanding of the world, don't be so delusional as to think you have taken a "political" position. You have only joined the stupidest 20% of America in lockstep agreement that fundamentalist religious socialism is a good substitute for democracy, science, and rational thought.

And in general, if you don't like criticism, then you probably won't like much of what I write about anything, because that's primarily what I do. - Dan ]

@Snark,

I must have missed what you're talking about. In this article, Dan is a bit smug (which is typical, and given is track record of correct predictions, is *somewhat* earned), but obnoxious jerk? I just don't see it. Could be it's just a matter of opinion, I suppose.
