Microsoft has always been incompetent at marketing, and until they remove the current management, they will remain incompetent at marketing. Of course this assumes that someone on the board of directors has enough guts to challenge Gates and Ballmar, and I doubt it.

What Microsoft or their ad agency didn't seem to understand is that when Sarah Palin lookalike bimbo actress Lauren De Long said "I'm not Cool Enough to buy a Mac", the actual circumstances of the set-up were not about how "cool" she was.

In the circumstances, she was way cool enough, and knew she wanted the Mac. She just didn't have enough cash .................

So what she really meant was "I'm Cool Enough to buy a Mac, I just don't have enough cash, or at least my parents, or employers, or Bill Gates himself, haven't given me enough cash to get anything except a cheapskate low-resolution bigscreen piece of junk".

By sheer coincidence, that $1,000 was EXACTLY enough to get a good MacBook with a high-resolution 13.3 inch screen that will perform better and last longer than her POS-PC. Two years later it would still be worth a few hundred bucks when the HP would be landfill. Not to mention the time and cost of keeping that Windows laptop virus-free.

You know after seeing both new Microsquish ads that tout others' hardware, rather than the software that M$ makes, I think they are strying to restart the "Megahertz Myth" with the easiest differentiating factor left: Screen pixels vs screen inches.

Yes That's what I think they are pointing for. More inches is better... but not always!

Here are the screen resolutions of her HP, and the Macbook/MBP.
HP resolution--1440x900,
MacBook 13 resolution--1280 by 800,
MacBookPro 15 & 17 inch--1440 by 900 and less

The MacBook's screen resolution is 80% of the HP's screen res.

Watch this. It's a new MegaHertz Myth...

The advert is a complete crock... People who buy laptops are (IMO) more interested in aesthetics than specs.

If this ad was remotely realistic the girl would have got one of her geeky male friends to go around with her to advise on laptops. And they would probably of bought it on the Internet to save $$$$...
