When one puts something in quote marks, that means there is no doubt this person said exactly that - possibly in some cases with minor grammar corrections to help avoid embarrassment on the speaker's part. At respectable publications, such a thing as intentional misquotes would lead to instant unemployment on the part of the reporter. Too bad WIRED doesn't seem to want to uphold the journalism's standards of integrity.
