I paid for QuickTime Pro, ... once.

With the very next upgrade of QuickTime, my Pro license stopped working. There was no warning that installing the free product would invalidate my purchased product. I felt so screwed, I never purchased QuickTime Pro again, no matter how many times they reminded me at boot time to upgrade it.

Do you think that maybe THAT business practice might have something to do with why Apple failed to make significant sales of QuickTime Pro?

This is way, way, way overdue. 5+ years ago Quicktime Pro was state of the art for working with video files, but that is long past, with many other good full featured mainstream (Roxio) and shareware programs available now (especially for use with ripping DVD's grabbing streaming web video content, and DVR'ing/copying TV, none of which Apple can touch). while they are at it, they should drop the stupid extra charge for the MPEG2 plugin too. the extra price for such a bypassed program is insulting, really. Bad Apple.

Makes sense. And Apple will make back the losses as h.264 video becomes more prevalent encouraging users to come closer into Apple's ecosystem which often ends in buying high margins hardware.
