I think the assumptions that Apple must be pursuing either Power (not even PowerPC, but IBM's server Power architecture!) development or blade servers due to the fact that Papermaster has experience in both is as silly as thinking that Apple originally hired CFO Cook from Compaq because it wanted to start making $600 PCs.

All the facts point to the idea that Apple hired Papermaster to help develop new ARM SoCs and other custom silicon for new handheld devices, and perhaps in future Macs.

Daniel,

Can you please delete these rubbish comments?

There may very well be a serious story behind Apple hiring Mister Paperweight, and another possibly different story about why IBM is trying to spoke his wheels.

On one side is better and cheaper chips in iPods, on the other side is X-Serve in Data Centres. Which side are you on?

[sarcasm]
Oh, yes. Technology exists in a politics-free vacuum…
[/sarcasm]

The above sarcasm alert is for sarcasm-challenged individuals who will soon be 'forced' to find a same-sex spouse after Prop 8 loses in California. (Sarcasm is not emotion, swinn. I am not proposing — the make-up sex could never be good enough.)
