IMDB doesn’t have this Robin Williams bit from Man of the Year, so I’ll paraphrase it as well as I can:

There are no Red States or Blue States. We are the *United States*.

Rolling Stone – Is that a rock being used to hit someone who won The Lottery or description of a road trip to Black Rock? :) I guess it’s also a magic phrase when properly invoked can get you a free room at the Beverly Hills Hotel… :)

Of course, how could I forget! That bastion of responsible reporting, the pinnacle of unbiased prose: Rolling Stone magazine! I will be sure to pick up a copy just so I can read what every other outlet is saying about McCain…

It is good to see some lightheartedness among the candidates; some of the voters should have as much class.

My worst fear would be the United Stated are becoming the Divorced States, that blue states and red states are no longer able to trust each other and live in one nation. There is such a huge difference in lifestyle and mentality between high tech urban communities on the East Coast and West Coast and rural agricultural communities that populate the major part of the American surface. When urban America took a spurt in development and innovation in the 1990’s, the other part were unable to follow, which resulted in the infamous “cultural wars” and the Bush era.
And that was in better times when there was enough money to keep everybody happy. Now the world is facing economic challenges that will require major sacrifice and adaptation from most Americans, which could make polarisation much more grim.

So whoever the winner is, he will have to be able to listen to the “other” part of the country. And it won’t do harm either when the loosing candidate is able to persuade his own supporters to accept the new president as the President of the whole United States.

john mccain’s “honor” is fake. it’s a con. he is patently driven by raw, desperate ambition at this point of his life. yes, he has charm. and is a great drinking buddy no doubt and, back in the day, a bon hom womanizer/raconteur (that ain’t honor, that was getting laid a lot).*

no truly honorable person would do or say what he has been doing and saying in this campaign. it’s a fake legend of his life he has created, and the mainstream has bought into. boy are they suckers. but Dan i thought you had more savvy.

Well, it’s not so much of a flood. More of a very loud splash. :)

I think both camps are succumbing to the polling inevitabilities, and are working on their post-election posturing of bipartisan cooperation. Let’s hope THAT lasts well into 2009.
