Does anyone else detect a problem that Apple is pushing Cocoa while not following its own advice with iTunes, it's most important software? Either Carbon must have some great advantages or the iTunes team is being lazy.

Unlike Core Animation, Core Text is a C API. The Cocoa "wrapper" for this low-level framework is the "old" Cocoa Text System (that was rewrited using Core Text).

I think a common mistake is to think that all Obj-C API are part of Cocoa, and all C API are part of Carbon. There is a lots of API that are neither Carbon, nor Cocoa (see Core Video and Quartz for examples).
