SproutCore is just for the client-side. You must still use those tools (RoR, by example) to process the server-side… “relies on a lot of database usage”.

SC and RoR are open sourced and free to use.
ASP.NET et al. are propietary.

Steer clear of .NET in particular. Otherwise Obama might need a copy of Parallels to run your rich web app!

I haven’t done web development in years, but a recent opportunity has come out. Forgive me for not reading the previous Sproutcore articles thoroughly, but let me ask a question.

What would be the advantage of using this technology over Ruby on Rails, other MVC frameworks, ASP.NET, ASP.NET MVC (which is new), etc.? Esp. one that relies on a lot of database usage.

I ask because I don’t have the time to learn a bunch of technologies before choosing one to start developing in. I need to choose one and go with it.

I don’t know how odd Safari 3.1.1 on a PPC G4 is, but I found the photo gallery demo rather buggy using using them.
it needs work, but I can see the potential.
