Haha, that last one (and the one before it) was the best. You think hardware that was actually made to run Windows would at least run it well, guess not.

Oh and one last thing, ads are fine and all but um… I’ve been the lucky 999,999th visitor to your site about a dozen times now.

Hehe: “Overdone translucency effects to demo a new compositing engine.” So true!!
As with all good satire: the last is indeed the best.
It’ll be interesting to see if PC Pro magazine here in the UK use similar benchmark comparisons. They previously compared Leopard with XP which was clearly not a true comparsion.
Excellent keep em commin!

That was bloody brilliant! Keep up the excellent work, we appreciate it, believe me!
Would be too much work to make the images “click to enlarge”?
Very amusing, Daniel.
Thank God you didn’t say anything about Bush or people would have been all over you.
lightstab, don’t mention the “B” !
Nice image Blog Daniel. Curious; what is the actual version count for Vista when you consider 32 vs. 64 and all of the home vs. business vs. premium vs. etc.? It’s gotta be 15 or so. OS X? Just 3.
One more thing. I don’t recall Leopard being promised for late 2006. Wasn’t the original date spring 2007?
Johnny: it was originally targeted for late 2006 sometime in 2005, and eventually the first official release date was set for spring 2007.
JetPack, Sure that sounds about right. Daniel’s point is still valid. The difference is months vs. years. The pundits often refer to the “much delayed Leopard”. Silly stuff, isn’t it.
Apple will start shipping Leopard in all new Macs from day one. There won’t be a check box at the Apple Store to choose Tiger instead. Vista is being passed over by the majority of PC buyers largely because it really isn’t done yet.
I would have expected SOME kind of hi-def media support in Leopard. Yeah, the hi-def media war is still at the hight of its conflict, but Apple announced its support for Blu-Ray and joined the Blu-ray Disc Association way back in March 2005 (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu-ray_Disc_Association).
Apple helped make CD-ROM a standard. They could help decide the format war by shipping hi-def media hardware of one kind or another (most likely Blu-Ray), even if it’s only optional. Or they could include software support for BOTH formats, and let end users pick what they want as a BTO option.
The main drawbacks I could see from Apple’s perspective is that either you couldn’t get hi-def hardware from your local Apple Store and would be forced to go online to BTO it, or they’d have to triple the configurations in stock (Blu-Ray vs. HD DVD vs. none) to make sure everyone could immediately walk out with what they want.
It’s just kind of frustrating that Apple’s missing ANY kind of official presence in the bleeding edge of hi-def (physical) media. iTunes Store downloads and the AppleTV are still unfortunately at the back with regards to true hi-def content, so Apple, who should be LEADING the industry in hi-def (they added HD support to iMovie and Final Cut Pro in 2005) are now seen as playing catch-up.
Now that was really great.
…and thanks for keeping George W out of it!

[...] A few days from now Apple fanboys world wide (myself included) will be installing Leopard on their Macs and basking in the glory that is OS X Leopard. Some people were looking forward to the day that OS X and Vista would compete on a side by side basis. I hate to be blunt, but at this stage in the game: OS X Leopard has won and Vista has proven to be a subtle disappointment. [...]
SJ promised “secret” features in Leopard that we haven’t really seen yet. Combined with the absence of the GM release to developers, gets me wondering whether we’ll see a “one more thing” Friday. Any thoughts on this topic?
Hasta La Vista, Baby!
Funny piece.
I walked into an Apple store last year thinking I was going to buy a pouch for my iPod. I’d never even considered buying a Mac and Vista was only around the corner. But after poking around on an iMac for a while, I got intrigued. After some investigating, I started to realize what a sorry ass, imitation OS, Windows was. And I always knew what a pain up the ass it was to use. A few days later I came back and bought the iMac, and never looked back. So glad now.

Hi,
What a great way to demonstrate the differences. I love the idea of showing images, as it make much more than words can say. If you still insist you want to see a words comparison then you still can look at http://itcomparison.com/OS/MacvsVista/macvsvista.htm which cover a bit more aspects and go around what these photos have already demonstrated.
Enjoy,

[...] I tried Microsoft’s Outlook Express successor, Windows Mail Live Desktop Edition, what ever that thing was called. That was just too garish. Microsoft is chasing Apple. While Apple was criticized for being cartoony, called a gum drop interface and parodies as the iFruit, Microsoft produced what I consider a garish interface with Windows Mail.
